Consultation on Listed Buildings ConsentMedia Releases
Culture Minister Michael Russell today (Thursday, 25 June 2009) launched a consultation looking at devolving greater responsibility for listed building consent to local authorities. It follows a successful pilot scheme where Perth and Kinross, Glasgow City and City of Edinburgh councils were able to issue listed building consent for B-listed buildings without the need to notify Historic Scotland.

OBE For Champion Of The Antonine WallMedia Releases
David Breeze, the driving force behind the successful bid for the Antonine Wall to be granted World Heritage Site status, has been awarded an OBE. Dr Breeze, who works for Historic Scotland, is a renowned expert on the history, archaeology and conservation of the all – which once formed the north-west frontier of the Roman Empire.

Tantallon Castle – the formidable stronghold set on cliffs overlooking the the Firth of Forth - has endured countless sieges through the ages and witnessed many wild times - but this weekend, the castle is hosting a ‘wild event’ with a difference. On Sunday 28th June, Tantallon Goes Wild! welcomes all ages to take part in a series of family-aimed nature-appreciation activities from 11am – 3pm. Organised by Historic Scotland’s Ranger Service, the varied programme includes guided walks every hour, mammal trails, environmental art and hands-on activities.

Historic Scotland’s Rangers Service is recruiting young nature detectives for school holiday events at two outstanding historic sites - Linlithgow Peel and Blackness Castle. The Rangers have planned a host of exciting outdoors activities for primary-class children, with fun hands-on Tuesday morning sessions at both sites aimed at encouraging and enabling youngsters to learn about and appreciate wildlife and the natural environment.
