The present which opens doors to Scotland's past - and a year full of great days out

6 November 2008

Looking for a really special gift for friends or family this Christmas?  Why not choose the present which lasts all year, gives unlimited free access to a superb range of visitor attractions all over the country, and helps preserve our country’s heritage - membership of Historic Scotland.

Membership can be bought for as little as £6.00 for families and £3.16 for individuals a month. This fantastic value for money is evident from the 11% rise in people signing up this year. In hard financial times, it is a brilliant solution for days out and weekend activities.

Membership gives unlimited free entry to all Historic Scotland properties and sites from the Highlands and Islands to the Borders.  And with over 345 in our care, there’s certainly plenty to choose from.  In the North, they range from the awe-inspiring prehistoric village of Skara Brae, to the Neolithic tomb of Maeshowe, the medieval Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness, the formidable 18th century Fort George, and the Georgian elegance of Duff House.

Central Scotland’s prime attractions include the majestic Stirling Castle, the spiritual pilgrimage centre of Iona Abbey, the idyllic ruins of Inchmahome Priory, and the fascinating Bonawe Iron Furnace.  And our South region properties include the magnificent Edinburgh Castle, the picturesque Linlithgow Palace, the imposing ruined Border Abbeys, and the charming New Abbey Corn Mill.  Each of these fascinating historic attractions is unique, and every one promises a great day out, with plenty to see and do, whatever your interests or age.

In addition to free entry to Historic Scotland properties, membership also includes:
  • Free entry to over 400 Historic Scotland events, from living history and music, to battle re-enactments and spectacular jousting tournaments.

  • 20% discount in all Historic Scotland shops - includes books, clothing and gifts.

  • Half-price entry to over 500 heritage attractions in England, Wales and the Isle of Man in your first year of membership - free entry in your second and subsequent years.
