Christmas gifts from Historic Scotland

5 December 2006

For quality Christmas gifts with a difference take a look at what Historic Scotland has to offer.  We have everything from cashmere scarves and jewellery to fine bone china, books and toys. Historic Scotland shops can be a great place to pick up something a little bit special while enjoying a day out at one of the country's best castles, abbeys or other ancient monuments. You can shop also online and orders can be made by email, post or telephone.

Aundrea Hollington, Historic Scotland's Head of Retail, said:

'This time of year we are all on the lookout for Christmas gifts that are that wee bit different and special. Many of the sites in our care have gift shops where you can find good quality, interesting and unusual presents, while experiencing some of Scotland's fantastic heritage.

Our larger gift shops are packed with everything from lambswool scarves, china, toiletries, jewellery, soft toys and much more. In some of our shops you can pick up presents that are not available in High Street stores, like our own fun Crazy Castles range of mugs, jigsaws and other goodies all inspired by Scotland's castles.

There is also an extensive Tapestry Range, which includes beautiful cushions and other items with details from the medieval Hunt of the Unicorn series of tapestries. Our shops offer a wide variety of gifts to suit people of all ages and tastes'.

Historic Scotland's products include crafts and jewellery made in Scotland. The artwork Crazy Castles and the Abbeys and Cathedral ranges have been created by 25-year-old Scottish artist and fashion designer Alice Druitt.

You can buy Historic Scotland gifts from our online shop at or order by telephone on 0131 657 8440 or by email at

Notes for editors
  • The Tapestry Range, which extends from fine bone china to stationery, includes items inspired by the Hunt of the Unicorn series. Full sized versions of the series, widely regarded as the world's finest surviving European medieval tapestries, are currently being recreated to hang on the walls of Stirling Castle. The originals are in the USA. The recreation of the tapestries is linked to a major project to return the royal apartments at the castle to how they looked in their Renaissance heyday.
  • Please note that the range of goods on sale depends on the site and the size of shop. Not all our goods are stocked at each site. Goods not on sale in a particular shop may still be available online or by calling our retail team at the number shown above.
