Major new online resource launched for IonaMedia Releases
A major new bilingual online resource has been launched for one of Scotland’s most celebrated sites, the Hebridean island of Iona. The website, ionahistory.org.uk has been created by Historic Scotland – who cares for three of the most well known landmarks on the island - the Abbey, Iona Nunnery and MacLean’s Cross - to provide a bilingual portal for visitors to explore the island’s rich heritage.

First Minister sees Mount Rushmore in 3DMedia Releases
First Minister Alex Salmond today, (26th August,) came face to face with 3D replicas of Presidents Lincoln, Washington, Jefferson and Roosevelt as he viewed the latest images from the Scottish team that are recording Mount Rushmore with digital technology. The First Minister visited the Digital Design Studio at Glasgow School of Art to see the progress on the Scottish Ten project – a ground breaking partnership between Historic Scotland and Glasgow School of Art – to digitally record all five Scottish World Heritage Sites and five international sites, the first of which is Mount Rushmore.

New book reveals 14th Century town planning in WhithornMedia Releases
Town planning took place at Whithorn as early as the 14th century, reveals the latest publication in the Scottish Burgh Survey Series. “Historic Whithorn: Archaeology and Development”, published by Historic Scotland and the Council for British Archaeology, looks at the rich history and archaeology of the town and the nearby Isle of Whithorn.

Minister hears plans for Rothesay revitalisationMedia Releases
Culture Minister Fiona Hyslop is today (Monday) visiting Rothesay to hear about a planned new partnership between Historic Scotland and Argyll and Bute Council to look at new ways to capitalise on the island’s heritage to revitalise the community. The heritage agency and local authority are looking at how the area’s historic buildings can be repaired as part of a wider regeneration of Rothesay, which would both reflect the town’s past and build on the work being done by the Argyll and Bute Council’s CHORD (Campbeltown, Helensburgh, Oban, Rothesay and Dunoon) regeneration programme.
