5,000 year old Westray wife ends tour of Scotland at Orkney MuseumMedia Releases
Visitors and locals to Orkney will have a final chance to see Scotland’s earliest human face, the Orkney Venus, on its current tour of Scotland, when it takes residence at the Orkney Museum from Saturday (16th October). The figurine, known locally as the ‘Westray Wife’ will be on display in the museum’s Baikie Library until 13th November.

Step back in time to the 17th Century - and the siege of Stirling CastleMedia Releases

Young people gather at New Lanark for UNESCO World Heritage Youth SummitMedia Releases
Young people from across Scotland gathered at the New Lanark World Heritage Site (WHS) today (1st October) for the UK UNESCO Youth Summit. The first to be held in Scotland, the summit aims to explore what world heritage means to young people and how they can help to preserve and protect the internationally important cultural and natural heritage on their doorstep.

Scottish Ten website launchedMedia Releases
Historic Scotland has launched a new website dedicated to the Scottish Ten project which will digitally scan and capture Scotland’s five World Heritage Sites and five other international historic sites, over the course of five years. It is being launched simultaneously with the first five minute movie on YouTube which shows footage of the team scanning Mount Rushmore.

Huntingtower pays tribute to a great Jacobite leaderMedia Releases
The life and times of Jacobite commander Lord George Murray will be celebrated at his birthplace – the delightful Huntingtower Castle, just outside Perth - on Sunday 10th October. Historical re-enactors in period costume will be sharing tales of the exploits of Murray, a fascinating character who was born in 1694 and is most noted for his 1745 campaign under Bonnie Prince Charlie. In addition to gaining an insight into Murray’s life, visitors will be able to see demonstrations of the weaponry of the period.
