Historic Scotland launches new website

1 May 2008

Historic Scotland has launched its new-look website, making it easier than ever to find out about places to visit, protected buildings and sites, grant funding and conservation.

A news alert system has also been introduced at www.historic-scotland.gov.uk/news that allows users to sign up for all media releases sent out by the agency.

Linda Kong, Historic Scotland eCommunications Manager said: “The Historic Scotland website is an excellent source of information for the public and an asset to the agency, so ensuring that it is easy to navigate and as up-to-date as possible is vital.

“Millions of people visit Scotland each year to explore and experience the nation’s culture and heritage and this new website means that Historic Scotland can be showcased effectively.”

In the Places to Visit section visitors can now search by region, rather than having to know the property name. This gives everyone the opportunity to explore all the Historic Scotland attractions in their area. With over 300 historic properties in our care, spanning more than 5,000 years of history, this gives visitors the opportunity to research and plan in advance of their visit.

Linda added: “The redesign was about creating a website that did justice to our incredible properties and range of expertise that Historic Scotland has.

“As before, the website is constantly updated, with details of events, news, Scottish policy announcements and the most up-to-date conservation advice from our research.

“I would urge anyone with an interest to visit the site and see the differences for themselves.”

The website also provides information on how to apply for the various grants schemes, what protection is available for buildings and monuments and the Scottish Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes. Policy papers and conservation publications are available to buy or download.
