The survey provides an insight into how we view our organisations and experience of the workplace - particularly important this year, given the significant change programme currently underway.

This year, the engagement level (that is positive answers to questions) for Historic Scotland was 64 per cent, which is the same as in 2012 and continues to be six per cent higher than the Civil Service benchmark. RCAHMS meanwhile, reported an engagement level of 69 per cent. RCAHMS undertook the same survey via the Survey Monkey surveying tool, with a response rate of 93 per cent. These scores put both organisations among the very highest performers in the Civil Service out of 98 participating organisations.

In terms of response rates, 93 per cent of RCAHMS staff and 58 per cent of HS staff participated in the survey. 11 per cent higher for Historic Scotland than last year, with the paper surveys received more than doubling.

Joint Chief Executives Ian Walford and Diana Murray said: “The response rates across our staff are very encouraging, with an 11 per cent increase on last year across Historic Scotland and impressive engagement at RCAHMS.

“The results of the survey will prove invaluable in helping take forward the programme for setting up the new organisation, ensuring staff voices plays a critical role at the heart of shaping our future.’’
