New Edinburgh Castle rock trap to be installed

Edinburgh Castle is to have a new, permanent wall and rock trap installed. The new installation, which is being taken forward by new heritage body Historic Environment Scotland, in collaboration with the city of Edinburgh Council, will replace a temporary barrier installed in mid-2013 and follows a public consultation exercise.

Looking after Scotland’s heritage

As of 1st October 2015, a new online planning portal is to be launched as the functions of Historic Scotland and the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS) transfer to the Non-departmental Public Body (NDPB) Historic Environment Scotland.
