Orkney site nominated for top tourism award

Historic Scotland in the running for prominent tourism prize. One of Historic Scotland’s most spectacular sites has been nominated for a prestigious Highlands and Islands Tourism award. The Broch of Gurness in Orkney has been shortlisted for the Customer Care Award and the winner will be announced at a glittering ceremony on 21 November.

Minister welcomes UNESCO delegates

Culture Minister Linda Fabiani today (Wednesday, 12 November) welcomed international heritage delegates to Edinburgh. The Minister met with Dr Mechtild Rössler and Professor Manfred Wehdorn at the Parliament as the pair begin a visit to report on conservation within the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh World Heritage Site for UNESCO’s World Heritage Centre next year.

UNESCO visit to Edinburgh

Advisers to UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee will visit Edinburgh between November 12 and 15. Dr Mechtild Rössler, Chief of Europe and North America at UNESCO’s the World Heritage Centre, and Professor Manfred Wehdorn of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) will be looking at developments in the city, and how they might affect the World Heritage Site, to report back to the committee in 2009.
