Smailholm Tower goes back to grass roots

Smailholm Tower, a well-preserved 15th century tower situated between St Boswells and Kelso, is to receive a ‘living roof’ to make it watertight. This is due to rain leaking through the stone flag roof which has caused damage to the upper floor.

Renowned Scottish Artist takes up residence at Stirling Castle

Stirling Castle has been the inspiration for many paintings and drawings over the centuries – and now its has its own artist in residence. Visitors will now be able to see Iona Leishman – a rising star among Scottish painters – carry out a residency at the castle for the rest of 2011 and view a selection of her work on display and on sale. During this time she will work with schools and community groups to develop the creative talents of children and adults – including supporting high school students who are putting together portfolios for art exams.

Holyrood Park hosts annual community fun day

Holyrood Park will be playing host to its annual Community Fun Day and Dog Show this weekend. The Historic Scotland Ranger Service will be running a host of events for all the family this Sunday, 21st August. Highlights include a seven metre climbing wall and sports activities for all ages, with fun events including tossing a volcanic rock, the three-legged gull race and frog-hopper bounce.
