Edinburgh pupils give performance with Gaelic in Edinburgh Castle’s Great HallMedia Releases
Visitors to the Great Hall in Edinburgh Castle were today treated to special historical performances in English with Gaelic by Primary 7 pupils from Stenhouse Primary School in Edinburgh. The children also sang in Gaelic.

Volunteer tour guide is Young Scot “Heritage Hero” 2012Media Releases
An Aberdeen teenager has been announced as the Sunday Mail Young Scot “Heritage Hero” 2012 following a glittering awards ceremony in Glasgow. Sean Press (17), from Kingswells, is a young historian who volunteers at the Gordon Highlanders’ Museum in Aberdeen, where he offers tours and conducts research.

Carved stone inscription presented to St Andrews’ University to mark 600th anniversaryMedia Releases
A stone inscribed with the Scots translation of Greek Poet Simonides work has been presented to the University of St Andrews by Historic Scotland to hang in its Main Library. It was created as part of a BBC Radio programme linked to Professor Robert Crawford’s translations of the ancient epitaphs for western soldiers killed in conflicts 2500 years ago in the territories of modern Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan.

Youngsters invited to take part in Glenrothes photo competitionMedia Releases
Young people in Glenrothes are being asked to celebrate their town’s public art in a photo competition that will culminate in an exhibition in Rothes Halls this summer. Historic Scotland has recently recognised the importance of Glenrothes public art by listing several sculptures, and the agency has also produced a free downloadable booklet offering maps and trails.

European Cluniac Delegation honour Crossraguel AbbeyMedia Releases
Crossraguel Abbey has been presented with a plaque marking its association with the Cluniac Order. The abbey of Cluny in Burgundy was founded in 910 by Duke William of Aquitaine. Cluny soon became well-known for its reformed way of life and thus the Cluniac order was established.
