From the earliest examples of human hand to the iconic landmarks of Scotland’s great industrial heritage, our historic environment is second to none. And it is a heritage that enjoys world acclaim. Scotland’s five World Heritage Sites of the Heart of Neolithic Orkney, Edinburgh Old and New Towns, New Lanark, St Kilda and now the Antonine Wall are a clear demonstration of how highly regarded Scotland’s heritage is by the international community.

Culture Minister Michael Russell MSP and Barbara Follett MP, Minister for Culture, Creative Industries and Tourism, will today (Tuesday, March 10) visit the UK’s most recently inscribed World Heritage Site, The Antonine Wall. The most northern frontier of the Roman Empire was named of global significance by UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee in July last year. This will be the first time that the two Culture Ministers have met.

One of Scotland’s finest single malt whiskies is available at a specially reduced price during March and April in support of the Year of Homecoming. Homecoming Scotland 2009 is the largest-ever celebration of our national culture –and whisky is among its core themes. Historic Scotland is providing visitors with an especially warm welcome to three of its attractions by cutting £35 from the price of its 56.3% proof Dallas Dhu 24-year-old Cask Strength whisky.
