Scotland's five world heritage sites come together to celebrate World Heritage Day

Scotland’s five world heritage sites will come together for the first time in a series of interactive events to mark World Heritage Day. The day will see people across Scotland celebrate each of the country’s world heritage sites – Edinburgh Old and New Town, New Lanark, Heart of Neolithic Orkney, The Antonine Wall and St. Kilda.

Public consultation launched for world heritage site, New Lanark

A 13 week public consultation on a Management Plan for the world heritage site at New Lanark was launched today, 21st March 2011. The New Lanark World Heritage Management Plan was drafted and agreed by a partnership of Historic Scotland, the New Lanark Trust and South Lanarkshire Council.

Scottish designer who blazed the way for Rennie Macintosh's story to be told

A Scottish designer who blazed the way for Charles Rennie MacIntosh and the famous ‘Glasgow Style’ is to be the subject of a conference in Glasgow later this month. Daniel Cottier, who now lends his name to Cottier’s bar and restaurant in Glasgow’s West End was one of the most influential designers of his day internationally, yet until now his story has remained relatively untold at home.

Historic Scotland scores Hat-Trick with Social Media Award

Historic Scotland’s work with social media has been recognised by industry peers at a prestigious communications awards event. The agency came up trumps in the Best Use of Social Media category at the Institute of Internal Communications’ annual Scottish awards for their work in social media. The win makes it three-in-a-row for the Digital team, adding to their victory in the Best Website category in previous years.

Army pipers and drummers in spectacular challenge at Stirling Castle

Officer training corps from across Scotland meet to compete. Up to 60 pipers and drummers will gather at Stirling castle for a spectacular military musical competition. All are members of the British Army’s Officer Training Corps (OTC) and are taking degrees at universities in the Stirling/Fife area, or in Glasgow, Edinburgh or Aberdeen. It is the first time this annual contest has been staged in public, rather than at a barracks, and will take place in the spectacular setting of Stirling Castle from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, 19 March.
