Roads closed around Holyrood Park 3, 4, 5 September

31 August 2010

Roads around Holyrood Park will be closed on Friday 3rd, Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th of September due to the 2010 World Duathlon Championships, when up to 1,000 of the best duathletes in the world will take to the roads of the Park.

The large car park by Holyrood Palace will be closed from Wednesday 2nd September.

In addition, there will be no vehicle access to the Park on Sunday night when the Festival Fireworks will take place, which means roads will not re-open until Monday morning.

The roads affected will be:

Queens Drive
Queens Drive – ‘High Road’
Queens Drive – ‘Low Road’ – Commonwealth Pool to Duddingston Village
Duke’s Walk – Including access to the car park at St Margaret’s Loch
Holyrood Road and Holyrood Gait – Entrance to Park
Horse Wynd – Between Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliament

The Duathlon competitors  will compete for six World Championship titles, 27 Age Group gold medals and a total prize fund of 75,000 Euros (for the Elite competition).

Martin Gray, Royal Parks Visitor Services Manager, Historic Scotland said:

“We would like people to know that the park is open as usual on these days, however they should be aware that the roads and car parks will be closed.

“We welcome people coming to the park to watch the fireworks, but those coming on Sunday night for the Festival Fireworks should be aware that there will be no vehicle access to the park.”
