Visitors to Duff House to experience works of famous children's author

Visitors to Duff House will be able to experience the works of one of the world’s most famous children’s authors this week.

The House is playing host to a special outdoor performance of Roald Dahl’s ‘The Twits’ this Thursday, 12th July.

Touring company Illyria return to the House this summer on the back of their acclaimed performances of ‘James and the Giant Peach’ and ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’.

The company were the first UK open air touring company to be granted permission to perform the work of Roald Dahl and have been taking their tour of ‘The Twits’ around some of the UK’s grandest venues, including Knebworth House in Hertfordshire and Winchester Cathedral, to rapturous audiences.

Rachel Kennedy, General Manager, Historic Scotland, Duff House said;

“We are thrilled to be welcoming the Illyria team back to Duff House this summer.

“This is the fifth year that we have held Illyria shows in the grounds and they have always been hugely popular with visitors.

“The Dahl productions are a fantastic evening out for all the family – visitors bring their own seating and often a picnic and enjoy being entertained in front of one of the areas most beautiful country houses.

“It’s the first of two Illyria productions that we’ll be hosting at the house this summer – the second being a production of Gilbert & Sullivan's HMS Pinafore in August and we look forward to welcoming visitors to the house.”

Tickets for the event are available on the door on the evening or in advance from the Illyria website ( or from Duff House on  01261 813003. Adults: £11; Children/OAP/Student £7; Family (2adults /2 children) £28.00. Gates open at 5.45pm, performance: 6.30pm.

  • Guests are asked to bring their own seating (rugs, etc) as no seating is provided by the venue. They are invited to bring a picnic/refreshments however the shop will be open. Access to toilets inside also provided. Disabled parking available via the back drive (is signposted) and also at the car park near to the main gate.

  • Guests are also asked to dress appropriately for the weather as this is an outdoor event.
