Historic Scotland scores Hat-Trick with Social Media Award

Linda Kong & Ruth Paterson with the award for "Best use of Social Media"

Historic Scotland’s work with social media has been recognised by industry peers at a prestigious communications awards event.

The agency came up trumps in the Best Use of Social Media category at the Institute of Internal Communications’ annual Scottish awards for their work in social media.

The win makes it three-in-a-row for the Digital team, adding to their victory in the Best Website category in previous years.

Historic Scotland took its first steps into the world of social media in 2009 and last year saw us develop a strong presence on sites as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr to engage with our visitors

Presenting the award to Digital Manager Linda Kong last week, judges said they were impressed by the way Historic Scotland has made use of so many different social media sites.

Linda said: “The Digital team is delighted with this award and to win three years in a row in different categories is a real boost for us. The award category supports the fact that social media is everywhere and that conversations are taking place about us whether we like it or not. By engaging in social media, it means we can be a part of that conversation to help us keep in touch with our customers directly and gain real insight into what customers really think about us.”

Pat Connor, Historic Scotland’s Director of Communications, added: “This award is particularly telling of the hard work our Digital team has put in because so many others are now using social media. Despite many people being in on the act, Historic Scotland is clearly leading the way in using new means to get our message out there, meaning this award is very much deserved.”
