Historic Scotland sponsor heritage award

11 January 2007

Do you know a young person with a passion for the historic environment?

Maybe they wax lyrical about the beauty of Scotland’s castles, perhaps they devote their time to helping others discover history or brave the elements to take part in archaeological digs.

These are the very people that Historic Scotland is looking for to enter the Heritage category in this year’s Young Scot Awards.

The Historic Scotland Heritage award will honour those who have worked passionately to help protect, maintain and support the importance and beauty of our country’s landscape, monuments and community buildings.

John Graham, chief executive of Historic Scotland, said: “It is hugely important that the hard work and dedication of young people is properly recognised.

“The Young Scot Awards brings together the best of Scotland’s young people and Historic Scotland is once again proud to be a part of it.”

Entrants must be aged between the ages of 12 and 22 and committed to safeguarding and promoting the importance of the historic environment.

Nomination forms are available at and must be submitted before 21 February 2007.

At the inaugural awards ceremony last year, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport Patricia Ferguson, along with design duo Colin and Justin, presented the Historic Scotland Environment prize to Josie Vallely from Edinburgh.
