We're changing

We are creating a new public body, Historic Environment Scotland, which will come into effect from 1 October 2015. While we work on shaping our future we can reassure you that all services and products will continue as normal. We will continue to keep you up to date on developments. Please follow our progress and find out more about our new organisation.

Scheduled Monument Consent Fast Track

Scheduled Monument Consent applications normally take 5 weeks to process. However, Historic Scotland is piloting  a fast track application process for certain minor works which have a limited impact on the monument and raise no significant policy concerns. Fast track applications will normally be determined within two weeks of submission.

If you wish your application to be considered through the fast track process you must first enter into pre-application discussions with Historic Scotland, who will advise whether your application is eligible for the fast track process.

If you are not the sole owner of the monument, you will also require a letter from all owners of the monument to which the works relate, confirming that they are content with the works proposed and wish to make no further representation.

Please note that works which have the potential to affect European Protected Species, Natura Sites or Sites of Special Scientific Interest cannot be considered through the fast track process.
