How to Propose a Commemorative Plaque
Stage 1: If you would like to propose a plaque, you should first make absolutely certain that the subject you have in mind is eligible for consideration under the criteria
here.
Applicants are asked to register their proposed nomination using the online form. This requires the name of the person being nominated for a plaque and the address of the building that it is proposed that the plaque should be attached to. You must register some personal details, or details relating to the organisation or group submitting the nomination.
Stage 2: Where nominations have been approved following an initial check for the accuracy of information, Historic Scotland will then contact the parties involved directly and request that the second stage of the submission is completed. This will include requesting details of the reasoning behind the request, the submission of appropriate background information on the subject and the property in question and confirmation that the present owners of this property have consented to the erection of a plaque.
Stage 3: Applications will be considered by an independent assessment panel and the successful nominations will be announced prior to erecting the Commemorative Plaque.
Applications for this year have now closed.
