Work by Ross of Mull and Tobermory Brownies and Rainbows is to go on display in Bunessan in time for the Museum’s festival beginning on May 18.The girls who make up the two groups, aged 7-10, worked together to learn more about the history of the nunnery on Iona. Now their art work is on show at as part of Scotland’s Festival of Museums at Tigh na Rois, the Ross of Mull Historical Centre (ROMHC). It will then go on to Tobermory.

Visitors to the Great Hall in Edinburgh Castle were today treated to special historical performances in English with Gaelic by Primary 7 pupils from Stenhouse Primary School in Edinburgh. The children also sang in Gaelic.

An Aberdeen teenager has been announced as the Sunday Mail Young Scot “Heritage Hero” 2012 following a glittering awards ceremony in Glasgow. Sean Press (17), from Kingswells, is a young historian who volunteers at the Gordon Highlanders’ Museum in Aberdeen, where he offers tours and conducts research.

A stone inscribed with the Scots translation of Greek Poet Simonides work has been presented to the University of St Andrews by Historic Scotland to hang in its Main Library. It was created as part of a BBC Radio programme linked to Professor Robert Crawford’s translations of the ancient epitaphs for western soldiers killed in conflicts 2500 years ago in the territories of modern Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan.
