Simple yet stylish – one of Scotland’s three surviving outdoor seaside swimming pools has been recognised for its outstanding architectural and historic importance. Historic Scotland has awarded category A-listed status to the Tarlair tidal pool complex, east of Macduff, in Aberdeenshire.

A study of the work of innovative architects Morris and Steedman has led to four more buildings been given statutory protection by Historic Scotland. Twelve houses designed by the duo – who in recent years have been increasingly acknowledged as ground-breaking pioneers of post-war architecture in Scotland –were already listed in recognition of their architectural and historic importance.

Families are invited to join students from Oatridge College for a guided walk and talk to discover more about the winter birdlife at Linlithgow Peel. As part of their HND Countryside Management course, the students have been working with the Historic Scotland Ranger Service to find out more about the environment around Linlithgow Palace. They are inviting the public to a special afternoon event where they will lead walks round the loch and show visitors how to make nesting boxes and bird feeders.
