Youngsters invited to take part in Glenrothes photo competition

Young people in Glenrothes are being asked to celebrate their town’s public art in a photo competition that will culminate in an exhibition in Rothes Halls this summer. Historic Scotland has recently recognised the importance of Glenrothes public art by listing several sculptures, and the agency has also produced a free downloadable booklet offering maps and trails.

European Cluniac Delegation honour Crossraguel Abbey

Crossraguel Abbey has been presented with a plaque marking its association with the Cluniac Order. The abbey of Cluny in Burgundy was founded in 910 by Duke William of Aquitaine. Cluny soon became well-known for its reformed way of life and thus the Cluniac order was established.

Edinburgh Castle unveils new hospitality and tourism offerings for 2012

Historic Scotland launches themed tours

Historic Scotland is launching themed tours at a number of properties across its estate. The tours will run until September and participating sites include Arbroath Abbey, Dallas Dhu Distillery, Dirleton Castle, Huntingtower Castle and Skara Brae. The tours are designed to tie into key aspects of history from the sites’ past.

Mull Brownies work goes on display

Work by Ross of Mull and Tobermory Brownies is to go on display in Iona, Bunessan and Tobermory. The girls who make up the two groups, aged 7-10, worked together to learn more about the history of the nunnery on Iona. Now their art work is on show at St Ronan’s Chapel on Iona for visitors to see.
