Historic Scotland encourages Scottish families to Make Their Own History

Following the success of its 2009 ‘Make Your Own History’ marketing campaign - which resulted in membership levels reaching an all-time high - Historic Scotland is launching its latest major drive to encourage Scots to make the most of their country’s rich heritage. The 2010 ‘Make Your Own History’ campaign, which runs from 26 March to 11 July, will highlight the opportunities for great family days out offered by Historic Scotland’s outstanding heritage properties and leading visitor attractions. And to encourage families to enjoy the historic highlights on their doorstep and become Historic Scotland members, ‘Make Your Own History’ is offering a special incentive - 15 months’ membership for the price of 12. A year’s free entry for all the family to Historic Scotland’s 78 paid attractions already costs less than 7 a month but during the campaign, an additional three months is being offered for free.

Historic Scotland helps traditional buildings become more energy efficient

Historic Scotland is challenging the view that traditionally built homes, which comprise almost a fifth of Scotland’s houses, are energy inefficient and a barrier to meeting Scotland’s carbon reduction targets in the housing sector. This is one of the issues which will be discussed at a conference, “Energy Efficiency and Sustainability in Traditional Buildings” hosted by Historic Scotland on Wednesday 24 March at The Hub in Edinburgh. Historic Scotland will be presenting their results of research and activity to assist anyone who has any involvement with a traditional building, whether it is a home, school, hospital, shop or a factory to make it more energy efficient.

Stirling Castle wins best website at Communicators in Business Scotland Awards

The Stirling Castle website has been named best website at the recent Communicators in Business Scotland awards only 5 months after it was launched. The awards, which recognise excellence within the communications industry were held at the Radisson in Glasgow and saw the Historic Scotland e- communications team, who run the website, pick up the award for the second year running. The team won the previous year for the Edinburgh Castle website.

New funding for heritage advisory body

Fiona Hyslop, Minister for Culture today announced that Historic Scotland is giving a three year cash commitment of more than 360,000 in order to help support the Built Environment Forum Scotland, (BEFS), become the intermediary body to represent the historic environment through the Voluntary Sector Funding Programme.
