Christmas fun for all the family at Edinburgh Castle!
8 December 2011
Christmas is coming to Edinburgh Castle with lots of fun activities for all the family.
This Sunday, 11th December, visitors to the castle will have the opportunity to enjoy Christmas Carols in the magnificent surroundings of the Great Hall with performances at 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
Every weekend throughout December there will be performances by costumed performers, bringing the history of Edinburgh Castle to life for all the family.
As part of these events visitors will be able to meet Mary, Queen of Scots and her court and hear how she relaxes and enjoys the festive period. The soldiers protecting the court will also be on hand to explain to visitors how they spend their days and will also give a rousing musket display. There will also be the opportunity to meet the court cooks and find out how they go about making food fit for a Queen.
Nick Finnigan, Executive Manager of Edinburgh Castle said;
“Christmas is particularly atmospheric in the iconic setting of Edinburgh Castle. We have lots of Christmas activities planned for all of the family to enjoy and are really looking forward to the Christmas Carol concerts in the Great Hall this Sunday.
“Our costumed performances during the weekends in December are great fun and bring history to life in a light-hearted and humorous fashion. We will also have special interactive performances taking place from 27th to the 31st December, so if you want to get the children out and about after being cooped up indoors after Christmas, this is a great way to take them out to have fun at the Castle.”
Visitors can also take the Edinburgh Castle Winter Quiz which will test the family on their knowledge of Scotland’s wintery traditions and tales. The quiz will run until Burns Night with one winner walking away with a special prize.
