Public consultation launched for world heritage site, New Lanark
21 March 2011
A 13 week public consultation on a Management Plan for the world heritage site at New Lanark was launched today, 21st March 2011.
The New Lanark World Heritage Management Plan was drafted and agreed by a partnership of Historic Scotland, the New Lanark Trust and South Lanarkshire Council.
Gordon Mackie, New Lanark World Heritage Site Coordinator said: “New Lanark is one of the UK’s best World Heritage Sites and is a very successful visitor attraction. The plan sets out a vision for the site and provides a broad framework for the management, conservation and enhancement of New Lanark for the next five years.
“We are very keen to get people involved and listen to their opinions. A number of consultation events will run in April and May and are currently being prepared – one will take place in Lanark town, for the local community, business and voluntary organisations and individuals. Another will be held in New Lanark to give an opportunity to village residents and local businesses to find out more about the plan and give their views on how they would like to see the site develop.”
Lorna Davidson, Director of New Lanark Trust added: "We are looking forward to working with our partner organisations to develop a long-term strategy for managing the World Heritage Site. New Lanark is a special part of the world's shared cultural heritage. It must be safeguarded for everyone to enjoy, whether they live locally, or have travelled far to visit this memorable historic site".
