Historic Scotland Retail Team Scoop top Industry Award
8 March 2011
Historic Scotland’s Retail Team have scooped the top prize at the Association of Cultural Enterprises (ACE) Awards in Cardiff.
The agency beat off competition from heritage attractions and museums from across the UK, as the “Symbols of Scotland” range of products was awarded the “Best Retail Product 2010”, at the annual ACE Awards Ceremony, held at the National Museum Cardiff.
Historic Scotland’s Retail Buying and Merchandising Manager, Jill Burt said,
“We are absolutely delighted to have won this prestigious award. The award was voted for by 180 conference delegates and it is especially gratifying to have won through selection by our peers.
“The creation of the “Symbols of Scotland” range has been led and developed by the Historic Scotland Buying Team, but would not have been possible without the support and co-operation of our many partners, from the illustrator and designers through to a wide range of suppliers from across the UK.
“As any buyer knows, creating a bespoke range takes a lot of time and hard work. It’s all made worthwhile however when we see our visitors taking delight in purchasing the various products and winning this award is the icing on the cake.”
The “Symbols of Scotland” pattern has been exclusively designed for Historic Scotland. The design is made up of the many elements which reflect the diverse range of properties in the care of Historic Scotland as well as symbols of Scotland generally. The symbols include a castle turret to reflect our mighty fortresses, a church window and Celtic cross symbolising the country’s many abbeys and cathedrals as well as more specific details such as the kettle from the Arnol Blackhouse. More generally, Scotland’s rich array of images are included such as the thistle, the lion rampant and Celtic knots.
The pattern is so popular it has been used on all Historic Scotland’s bespoke retail packaging, carrier bags and signage whilst other departments are starting to use it in their own areas too such as the weddings brochure.
The full “Symbols of Scotland” range is available to buy from Edinburgh, Stirling and Urquhart Castles as well as many of our other outlets around Scotland. For more information on stockists contact the Retail Team on 0131 657 3600.
