Historic Scotland launches themed tours

Historic Scotland is launching themed tours at a number of properties across its estate.

The tours will run until September and participating sites include Arbroath Abbey, Dallas Dhu Distillery, Dirleton Castle, Huntingtower Castle and Skara Brae.

The tours are designed to tie into key aspects of history from the sites’ past.

At Dirleton Castle, groups can join a knight who will tell stories of the castle’s history from King Robert the Bruce’s assault to Oliver Cromwell’s siege in 1650.

Visitors to Dalllas Dhu can experience the whisky making process as it used to be and even sample a dram of exclusive blended whisky.

Meanwhile at Skara Brae, specialist guides will take visitors back 5,000 years to focus on village life in Neolithic times, whilst medieval monks will explain the role of the Abbey in the 1500’s at Arbroath.

“Our sites are steeped in history and themed tours are a fantastic way to bring the past to life.

“It’s an opportunity for visitors to really engage with the sites and to find out more about them at key periods in time.

“We are pleased to be piloting these tours this season across a number of our sites and working with travel operators to introduce them to their customers.”
