Linlithgow Palace is all set for its biggest and most exciting highlight of the year, its Spectacular Jousting Extravaganza.

This unmissable family event, which is being staged this Saturday and Sunday and also next weekend from 12.30pm to 4.30pm each day, features a packed programme of superb medieval entertainment.

The renowned Knights of Royal England - whose dramatic displays of horsemanship and weaponry skills never fail to thrill the crowds at the stunning historic attraction - are back again by popular demand.  And due to their immense popularity, Linlithgow’s great jousting show is for the first time being held over two successive weekends - 3rd and 4th, and 10th and 11th July.

The knights and their horses will open what promises to be an unmissable show by parading around the main arena on the Peel to the sound of fanfares.  Then they will clash with their opponents in a series of challenging contests to test their strength, accuracy and bravery.  Watch the drama and excitement of the jousting matches unfold and see who will be crowned champion at the end of each day.

There’s a host of additional and varied entertainment and activities too around the Peel and within the Palace itself, featuring costumed performers, a medieval encampment, storytelling, crafts and games, and falconry.

Historic Scotland Events Manager Nick Finnigan said: “This year’s Jousting Extravaganza promises to be our biggest and best ever – we’ve got a really great programme, full of exciting entertainments and activities for all the family.  Visitors are in for a treat and unforgettable day out. And with so much included in the ticket price, it’s excellent value too.”

Tickets cost £10 for adults, £6 for children and £8 for concessions.  Advance tickets are no longer available but tickets - including a family ticket, will be available on the day. The event is free for Historic Scotland Members –so families who take up Historic Scotland’s current membership offer can take advantage of this for free admission.

The ‘Make Your Own History’ membership promotion is offering 15 months’ membership for the price of 12 months.  Family membership, which enables unlimited access to 78 paid attractions throughout Scotland, costs less than £7 a month.  The promotion ends on 11th July; visit www.3monthsforfree.co.uk
