Rare Dallas Dhu go on sale

19 November 2007

This year, Historic Scotland is offering the perfect Christmas gift for whisky lovers with two Dallas Dhu single malts.

But anyone who wants them will have to be quick as they are limited editions which are expected to be highly sought after by collectors.

Only 261 bottles of the 46% proof Dallas Dhu 23 Year Old have been produced and 590 of the 56.3% proof Dallas Dhu Cask Strength, which is 24 years old. The prices are £120 and £165 respectively.

The Dallas Dhu distillery, near Forres, was built in 1898 and closed in the 1980s.

It is now a major visitor attraction in the care of Historic Scotland.

Aundrea Hollington, Historic Scotland head of retail, said: “Any new bottling of Dallas Dhu is an eagerly anticipated event among whisky connoisseurs and we expect these limited editions to be very popular.

“These whiskies are just some of the gifts we sell, lots of which are made in Scotland, which would make ideal Christmas presents.

“Many can be bought online, by mail order or at our network of shops at Historic Scotland properties all round the country.

“For anyone living in the capital, or here for a visit, there’s always the chance to combine their Christmas shopping with a trip to Edinburgh Castle which has three shops selling a distinctive range of quality products, some exclusive to Historic Scotland.”

Gifts for men include products from the Historic Scotland Kings’ range such as Lion Rampant cufflinks at £14.95 and the £50 Isle of Lewis Chess Set with pieces like those from one dating back to the 13th century.

For women, the Queens’ range includes a plum-coloured woven scarf with Celtic motif at £26.95 and exclusive starburst brooch at £19.95.
