Dunblane Cathedral

The lower part of the tower is Romanesque, but the larger part of the building is of the 13th century.

Dunblane Cathedral

One of Scotland’s noblest medieval churches. The lower part of the tower is Romanesque, but the larger part of the building is of the 13th century.

Sir Rowand Anderson restored the Cathedral in 1889-93.

Highlights

  • The tower – this four-storey red sandstone structure dates from the 12th century and is the oldest part of the church, located in an unusual position on the south aisle of the nave.
  • Choir stalls – dating to the 15th century, these rare survivals are some of the finest in Scotland.
  • The west front – this grand Gothic processional entrance is elaborately carved.
