Stirling Castle Palace Project

Stirling Castle Palace interior
The completion of Historic Scotland’s £12 million project to return Stirling Castle’s royal palace to how it may have looked in the 1540s is a major achievement.

From June 2011 visitors from all over the world will step back into the 16th century and see what life was like for Mary of Guise, the widow of James V, and their infant daughter Mary Queen of Scots. These were just two of the famous and fascinating people who lived at the palace, built by James V within the castle walls. This press pack gives details of the project to fully refurbish its six great royal apartments, and the wider work to upgrade the entire visitor experience, confirming the castle’s place as a truly world-class attraction.
A special weekend of celebrations will take place on the weekend on 4th and 5th June. All tickets will need to be purchased in advance to ensure visitors have the best possible experience. Normal opening will be from Monday June, 6th. Watch our Stirling castle website for further details.
