Scotland’s Environmental and Rural Services (SEARS)

Miles Ogolthorpe, Head of Policy Liaison and Modernisation, writes on SEARS

Historic Scotland has for much of this year been engaging with SEARS, a partnership launched at the Royal Highland Show in June 2008 that brings together nine public bodies and aims to provide Scotland’s rural land managers with an efficient and effective service.

The Inspectorate already works closely with several SEARS members, including Forestry Commission Scotland, SEPA and SNH, and much of our work involves rural communities across Scotland.  There are several areas of potentially enhanced collaboration, perhaps the most important of which is the sharing of data via GIS.  Our relationship with SEARS is likely to strengthen, with the possibility that Historic Scotland may formally join the partnership in the coming months.
