The total number of staff employed by Historic Scotland is approximately 1100, including approximately 250 industrial staff.  In addition a significant number of temporary fixed-term staff (150 Stewards and Shop Assistants) are employed each summer.

Historic Scotland staff are distributed the length and breadth of Scotland from Muness Castle in Shetland to Whithorn Priory in Dumfriesshire, and the Black House in Lewis to Dryburgh Abbey in the Borders.
