Security clearance
Historic Scotland staff are Civil Servants and therefore recruits to Historic Scotland are subject to perhaps more rigorous pre-appointment checks than in other areas of employment. All recruitment is carried out in accordance with the Civil Service Commissioners Recruitment Code. Appointments are made on merit on the basis of job competencies through fair and open competition.
Security clearance is required for all jobs within Historic Scotland.
Historic Scotland along with many other Government departments have joined forces with
Disclosure Scotland following the introduction of The Police Act 1997, which provided a new system of disclosing criminal history information to individuals and organisations for employment and other purposes. Should you be successful in your application for a job with Historic Scotland, we will require you to produce a Basic Disclosure certificate to verify your suitability for employment and to satisfy our security screening procedures. Prior to issuing a formal contract of employment and agreeing a suitable start date, you will be responsible for obtaining this certificate from Disclosure Scotland. This certificate will belong to you and the current charge made by Disclosure Scotland is £20.00. An application form and guidance note will be sent to you.
