Work on the Inventory is managed within the Listing and Designed Landscapes Team at Historic Scotland.

As well as our day to day work on assessing proposals for inclusion on the Inventory, and processing requests to review Inventory sites, we conduct other projects throughout the year.

The Inventory of Gardens & Designed Landscapes: Online questionnaire 2013

Survey Results (February 2014)

Historic Scotland launched an online questionnaire about the Inventory in the summer of 2013., we aimed to gather feedback from stakeholders and members of the public, and to improve our understanding of who uses the Inventory and why.

A total of 82 people responded, most of whom use the Inventory in a professional capacity. Through this we have gained a valuable insight into who uses the Inventory and why.

We were delighted that most respondents were positive about the Inventory. 91% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that the Inventory contains useful data. We were also very pleased that many respondents had taken the time to offer very detailed comments about the resource.

We continue  to look for ways to make our information more accessible

Following a useful consultation exercise with key stakeholders on the brand new ‘listed building record’, due to be launched in 2014, we are also looking forward to the launch of the new ‘Inventory record’. This will allow users to download and print full Inventory entries in a more eye-catching and accessible format.

Landscape Management Plan Grants

We are pleased to announce that in the last 12 months, Historic Scotland has approved two applications for grant under this scheme for Inventory sites. Grants have been awarded to Galloway House Gardens Trust on behalf of Galloway House in Dumfries and Galloway, and to South Lanarkshire Council on behalf of Chatelherault. For more information on grants offered by Historic Scotland, please view our Grants pages or telephone the Investments Team on 0131 668 8801.
