Historic Scotland and VisitScotland recognise the value of Scotland's landscape and wildlife. Under VisitScotland’s Green Tourism Business Scheme tourist organisations are rigorously assessed, audited and encouraged to operate in an environmentally friendly way.

 Depending on the level of energy-efficiency achieved, attractions are awarded Bronze, Silver or Gold accreditation:

• BRONZE for reaching a satisfactory level of being environmentally friendly
• SILVER for achieving a good level
• GOLD for achieving an excellent level
