Two twilight tours have been added for June/July/August commencing at 6pm and 7pm. These are to be pre-paid and booked in advance only. No visitor centre access.

For December & January the 2pm and 3pm tours are combined to accommodate the winter sunsets, and the Winter Solstice (the shortest day of the Year).

Parking restrictions

Please contact us on 01856 761 606 for details.

Maximum number per tour for non coach parties is 20.
During July and August, the number of tours per day may vary due to local circumstances.

Due to the limited size of the car park at Tormiston Mill and Health & Safety limitations, coaches/mini buses of 8 metres in length or less are permitted to use the car park. Coaches/buses of 9 metres are required to undertake a trial on site first, to confirm that the vehicle can negotiate the tight turning circles and if approved the vehicle may use the car park to drop off and collect passengers only, and will not be permitted to park during the group visit.

Access restrictions

Access to Maeshowe is via a 12 metre length narrow passageway measuring 1.19 metres high by 0.7 metres wide. Visitors are advised to notify the staff of any physical impairment that may prevent access or difficulty. Visitors are also advised that the Maeshowe chamber can be rather claustrophobic and that staff should be informed prior to entry of any concerns.
