Due to the limited size of the car park at Tormiston Mill and Health & Safety limitations, coaches/mini buses of 8 metres in length or less are permitted to use the car park. Coaches/buses of 9 metres are required to undertake a trial on site first, to confirm that the vehicle can negotiate the tight turning circles and if approved the vehicle may use the car park to drop off and collect passengers only, and will not be permitted to park during the group visit.
Access to Maeshowe is via a 12 metre length narrow passageway measuring 1.19 metres high by 0.7 metres wide. Visitors are advised to notify the staff of any physical impairment that may prevent access or difficulty. Visitors are also advised that the Maeshowe chamber can be rather claustrophobic and that staff should be informed prior to entry of any concerns.
