Broughty Castle

An outstanding example of 16th-century Scottish architecture

Broughty Castle

Originally built in the late 15th century, Broughty Castle was adapted through the centuries to meet the nation’s changing defence needs.

The castle has stunning views over the Tay.

Good views of Monifieth Bay, important for wintering wildfowl. The firth holds the United Kingdom's largest number of eider duck. Dolphins can occasionally be seen at the firth.

Broughty Castle Museum

The castle now houses a museum run by Dundee City Council. The museum contains fascinating displays on the life and times of Broughty Ferry, its people, the local environment and the wildlife.
