The scheduling process

Scheduling Team at work
Assessing a site for scheduling

We will arrange access to the site and explain what scheduling is and what the implications will be. Shortly after our visit we will write to say whether or not we intend to propose a site for scheduling and, if so, full details of the proposal will be sent to the owner and occupier.

Why are you still scheduling now?

Scheduling is an ongoing process. We assess and reassess all monuments as our knowledge and understanding of what survives and how important it is grows, and as each generation creates more archaeology.

Are monuments scheduled for all time?

Normally a monument is scheduled for all time. However, scheduled areas may need to change as we gain more knowledge. We may deschedule a monument if it no longer meets the quality expected of a modern scheduling, for example if our understanding of the significance of a site or certain types of monuments has changed with new information.
