Who can apply?
Financial assistance is available for owners of traditional thatched properties towards the cost of maintaining roof structures including complete re-thatching, any necessary repairs to roofing divots and minor repairs to roof timbers.
Criteria
Applications are invited for consideration throughout the year. The work must be approved and a grant offer issued before any work commences on the property. Rates of grant of up to 50% are available and up to 85% if applicants receive Council Tax relief or Income Support.
How to apply
For thatched properties located in the Western Isles or Highland regions, all enquiries and applications must be made direct to Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar or Highland Council respectively (see contact details below). Historic Scotland administers the thatching scheme in all other areas.
