The latest laser technology has been used to record and conserve one of the finest collections of Pictish carved stones. Historic Scotland has been carrying out a major care and conservation programme on the St Vigeans Stones during a major upgrade of their museum, near Arbroath.

At Active Archaeology Ranger Nathan Bryceland will be sharing his knowledge on some key aspects of 2,000 years of Holyrood Park’s archaeology during a private guided tour.

Guided tours lead by Historic Scotland’s expert guides are back by popular demand. The Orkney World Heritage Site Ranger Service are offering free guided walks around the Ring of Brodgar, a stunning circle of upright standing stones dating to the Neolithic period, situated just five miles north-east of Stenness.

A team of specialist rockwork contractors is about to start on the next phase of Historic Scotland’s rock slope management programme in Holyrood Park. This involves trained specialists abseiling down the cliff face in the area known as Woodpecker’s Gully. They will clear stones that are loose and pin others that are at risk of becoming loose, reducing the potential for rock falls.
