Study on the Impact of Grants

Jura Consultants were commissioned by Historic Scotland in February 2013 to assess its impact in the historic environment. The findings of the study are to be used to provide evidence of the on the economic, social and environmental impacts carried by investment.

The review also looked at the future of grant schemes and how Historic Scotland might better monitor its investment.

The analysis examined the type and scale of the economic, environmental and social impacts the various investments have made over the past five years. Respondents interviewed for the report also noted that repairing and restoring local landmark buildings has a positive impact on people’s sense of place and pride in their local area, has encouraged community engagement and animated public spaces.

The report also provides evidence of the ways in which the grant programmes contribute to the Government’s Economic Strategy.
