Merger - RCAHMS and Historic Scotland

Introduction

In July 2012, Cabinet Secretary for Culture and External Affairs Fiona Hyslop announced that the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS) and Historic Scotland should merge to become one body. This decision followed a comprehensive options appraisal of RCAHMS to secure the best possible long-term future for the Commission’s vital function and operations.

The new public lead body for the sector will be called Historic Environment Scotland (HES) and you can keep up-to-date with its progress on this section of our website.
