Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards 2013

Ian Walford was on hand at the Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards recently to present the Heritage award, which Historic Scotland was sponsoring for the seventh year.
This year’s winners were the members of the Bo’Ness Scottish Railway Society Youth Group, aged 12-16, who devote their free-time to preserving Scotland's oldest steam railway to ensure that an integral part of Scotland's history will never be forgotten. Each week the group don authentic uniforms and clean the platforms and carriages. They spend hours helping to preserve the country’s steam heritage but also help to make it a tourist attraction and something that is still very much part of the community.
On receiving the award Aaron McKinnon, 13, from the Bo'Ness Scottish Railway Society Youth Group said: "We have been working so hard to restore the steam engine and promote the site for tourists. It is amazing to win the award and have that work noticed. We want to bring more young people and make it even bigger.”
