Refurbishment Case Studies

The Historic Scotland Refurbishment Case Study series describes projects sponsored by Historic Scotland concerning the repair and upgrade of traditionally constructed buildings and components. The studies summarise site work and associated monitoring concerned with the projects, lessons learnt and conclusions drawn. This so collected evidence provides the basis for other technical guidance by Historic Scotland, including Short Guides and Inform Guides.

The case studies cover energy efficiency upgrades, although other subjects related to building conservation are also explored. In some instances, the works may still be in progress or awaiting further in situ monitoring data and will, therefore, be described as ongoing. Such case studies will be updated once the additional information is available.

Whilst the Refurbishment Case Study series focuses on practical upgrade work, general advice is available at Historic Scotland's energy efficiency advice web page and more technical and scientific research results are published in Historic Scotland’s Technical Papers.
