This summer, indulge in an entertaining line-up to bring history to life! Meet a range of historical figures from our medieval resident archer to Mary of Guise to Jacobite soldiers as they prepare for the fateful Battle of Sheriffmuir.

All events listed below are included in admission costs - there are no extra charges to get involved.
Men at Arms
Various sites, 12 noon -4.00pm

Meet our resident archer or soldier every Sunday throughout July and August. Discover the weapons that would have been used when the castles were preparing for battle or defence. See if you have what it takes to make it as an archer, or get hands on with the armour and weapons of the time and take part in a pike drill..

The Queen's Progress - Mary of Guise Tour
Various sites, 12 noon - 4.00pm

Marking 500 years since the birth of Mary of Guise. We invite you to join Queen Mary on her royal tour as she visits her subjects whilst enjoying the hospitality at magnificent castles and palaces. Discover how this French-born noblewoman came to rule the kingdom of Scotland, governing wisely and guarding the throne for her daughter, Mary Queen of Scots.

The March to Sheriffmuir
Various sites, 12 noon - 4.00pm

Come along to hear about the life of a Jacobite soldier on his way to battle. Find out about the 1715 Jacobite Rising and the role these great castles played during this turbulent period in Scotland’s history. Get hands on with the weapons and equipment of a soldier on campaign. Learn about the military tactics used by both the Jacobite and Government armies at the fateful Battle of Sheriffmuir.
