Junior Tour Guides

Bringing the past to life!

Historic Scotland's award winning Junior Tour Guides scheme enables young people around the country to engage with their local heritage whilst learning new skills and having a lot of fun along the way!

There are now a number of schemes in place accross the country and this year we are delighted to welcome our newest Junior Tour Guides from Leith Primary School in Edinburgh who will conduct costumed tours of Trinity House Maritime Museum.

Working in partnership with drama specialists Illuminate UK the scheme is a great way to deliver Curriculum for Excellence as it reaches across multiple topics. Recently highlighted as an example of excellence in a school inspection at Castleview Primary School the Craigmillar Castle scheme was recognised for enabling pupils to build confidence and develop strong communication skills whilst taking pride in their local community and playing an active role in improving it.

It’s clear that engaging young people with their local heritage has a positive impact providing them with the skills and inspiration needed to safeguard our historic environment for generations to come.
