Iona Abbey

Abaid agus Taigh-chailleachan Ì Chaluim Chille

Aon de na làraichean as ainmeile agus as coisrigte ann an Alba. Chaidh abaid Ì Chaluim Chille a stèidheachadh le Calum Cille agus an luchd-leanmhainn aige à Èirinn ann an AD 563. Gu math ainmeil mar ionad-eilthireachd Crìosdaidh tha faireachdainn spioradail mu Ì fhathast agus tha i na samhla buan de dh’aoradh.

Còrr is ceud bliadhn’ air ais, chaidh an abaid agus na togalaichean na cois a thogail às ùr agus ann an 1938 chaidh Coimhearsnachd Ì Chaluim Chille a stèidheachadh gus aoradh a chumail a’ dol san àite tro sheirbheisean agus tro theagasg.

Am measg nan rudan a bhios a’ tàladh dhaoine gu Ì Chaluim Chille tha an eaglais, cùmhdach Chaluim Chille, an làrach far am biodh an t-àite-sgrìobhaidh aig Calum Cille agus cruinneachadh eireachdail de chòrr is 180 de chlachan agus de chroisean air an snaigheadh bho na Linntean Meadhanach.

Anns a’ chladh tha iomadach rìgh agus ceann-cinnidh Albannach agus rìghrean à Èirinn, à Lochlann agus às an Fhraing, air an tòrradh agus faisg air an àite tha an tobhta de thaigh-chailleachan bhon 13mh linn. Tha bùth ann an clabhstair na h-Abaide far am faighear stuth-ealain agus stuth-ceàirde ionadail agus tomhas farsaing de chuimhneachain a bhuineas do dh’Eilean Idhe agus do Mhuile.
