We're changing

We have created a new public body, Historic Environment Scotland. While we work on shaping our future we can reassure you that all services and products will continue as normal. Please follow our progress and find out more about our new organisation.

Inform House CD Rom

Historic Scotland’s Technical Conservation Group has developed an interactive INFORM House which gives concise and readily accessible information to building owners and occupiers on the care, maintenance and repair of traditional buildings. The INFORM House, which will shortly be available on a free CD-Rom, has been designed to take advantage of modern gaming technology to give building owners access to information in a far more dynamic and interactive way.  Users are able to walk around a virtual house and choose which building feature or defects they would like to find out more about.

And because new INFORMs are constantly being added to the series, the programme also enables users to automatically download and install updates from the Internet as they become available, ensuring that they are always up to date with the newest information.

The INFORM House has been developed in collaboration with Learn Direct and Build, an award-winning collaborative venture based at Glasgow Metropolitan College which brings innovative, imaginative and flexible learning programmes to those engaged in training for the built environment in Scotland.
