Historic Scotland sponsor best re-use of a listed building award

Scottish Design Awards

Supported again this year by Historic Scotland, the Scottish Design Awards allow the industry to demonstrate their architectural and graphic design talent to peers and clients in the hope of winning a coveted Award.

Historic Scotland is very proud to once again sponsor the Best Re-use of a Listed Building award which, year after year, showcases some of the best design work being carried out in Scotland. Time and again the projects shortlisted for this award have demonstrated that combining old and new design, techniques and materials is not only possible, but is desirable.

In the past five years of being involved with the Scottish Design Awards, the entries in our category have had a range of uses, used different design and building techniques and have been among some of the most exciting projects to reinvigorate our historic environment in some time.

They have shown that designing sympathetically around an existing historic or architecturally significant building really does allow excellent design and skill to shine through.

Our historic environment is an asset for us to utilise in giving a sense of identity, continuance and community while celebrating past architectural achievements in combination with new design and techniques.

Judged by a panel of individuals with extensive industry experience the awards are open to all architects/engineers/designers based in Scotland but the building need not be built in Scotland it can be built anywhere in the world.
